Present Marketing Strategies

Contract Basis

Mandakini secures contracts where the colour choice, design, and materials are either fully or partially chosen by the buyer. This would allow a steady stream of income. Securing these contracts could come in multiple forms including utilising known contacts, attending exhibitions, identifying stores throughout India, and selling through existing online platforms. One major challenge that arises when securing contracts is the volume of orders required.

Exhibitions

Mandakini has attended multiple exhibitions which are catered more towards local people such as exhibitions in Dehradun or that are less artisan-centric such as Dilli Haat. In the beginning, exhibitions were fruitful for securing contracts, but have not been beneficial for long-term sustainability. MMBS participate in Local, state, and National level exhibition i.e SARAS, Trade fair, World Trade Center Mumbai, International Yoga, etc.

Individuals

Mandakini has sold through individuals using their website. However, it does not have an online payment gateway, which makes it a bit strenuous for buyers to send in checks and is inaccessible for foreign buyers. Additionally, some individual buyers have bought in bulk (100-300 products) and sold them to their friends or through their own means. This hasn’t proved sustainable in the long term.

Shop /Sale counter

MMBS also opened three shops at Ukhimath, Guptakashi, and Triyuginarayan and also planned to open more shops in the Chardham Yatra route.

Marketing through labeling and catalogue

Currently, on Mandakini products, there is limited identification of the products being locally sourced, empowering women, and creating livelihoods. The products are not distinguishable from other products that would be produced in a factory. A catalog will also help MMBS showcase its products.
